The police explained that hypoglycaemia can cause sudden symptoms, including dizziness, confusion, poor concentration, and slowed reflexes, all of which can make it difficult for a driver to maintain control of a vehicle or respond safely to changing road conditions.
Motorists were urged to check their blood sugar levels before driving and to stop immediately if any warning signs appear. Driving should resume only once levels have returned to normal.
Police also advised drivers to keep fast-acting sources of sugar, such as juice or sweets, in their vehicles in case of emergencies.
They highlighted the importance of regular medical check-ups and adherence to health guidelines, and emphasised that road safety is the responsibility of every road user, who must be aware of their obligations.
