Sharjah 24 – WAM: The UAE Search & Rescue Team, operating under the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA), continues field operations in flood-affected areas of Sri Lanka. Today, the team recovered eight additional bodies of landslide victims, bringing the total number found since the start of the mission to 18.

Focus on Rajathalava area

In the early hours, the team moved to the Rajathalava area, one of the regions most severely affected by landslides that buried multiple homes and residents under debris. Specialised vehicles, search-and-rescue dogs, and location-detection devices were deployed to sweep the area and remove rubble across challenging terrain.

Aid to the injured

The team also provided first aid to eight injured individuals, including an elderly woman and two children, who were treated on-site.

UAE’s continued humanitarian support

The UAE’s participation forms part of its rapid response to assist the people of Sri Lanka in coping with the aftermath of floods and landslides caused by Cyclone Ditwah. The UAE affirms its ongoing commitment to supporting Sri Lanka until the effects of this natural disaster are fully mitigated.
