Sharjah 24 – AFP: Aston Villa climbed to second place in the English Premier League after defeating Nottingham Forest 3-1 at Villa Park on Matchday 20.

Watkins and McGinn lead Villa to victory

Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for Aston Villa in the final moments of the first half. John McGinn doubled the lead early in the second half, before Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White pulled one back in the 61st minute. McGinn restored Villa’s two-goal advantage in the 73rd minute following an error by Forest goalkeeper John Victor.

Manager Unai Emery reflects on team’s performance

After the team’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal midweek, Emery held a meeting with his players and coaching staff to discuss confidence and mental focus. “We needed to recover our energy and our confidence,” Emery said, emphasizing the importance of Villa Park’s home support and team unity.

Standings impact

The victory raised Aston Villa’s points total to 42 from 20 games, moving them one point ahead of Manchester City and three points behind league leaders Arsenal. Despite their recent loss to Arsenal, Villa have maintained an impressive home record, winning 11 matches since August.
