Sharjah 24: Sunderland secured a valuable 2–1 win away to Newcastle on Sunday in Matchweek 31 of the Premier League.

Moroccan international forward Chemsdine Talbi led Sunderland to victory, helping overturn Newcastle’s early advantage.

Despite recording two consecutive league wins prior to this match, Newcastle suffered defeat after taking the lead through Anthony Gordon. The goal came following a costly mistake by defender Luke O'Nien, who misplayed a pass to German forward Nick Woltemade. The latter squared the ball to Gordon, who slotted it home in the 10th minute.

Talbi levelled the score in the 57th minute with a close-range finish following a corner. The delivery reached Northern Ireland’s Trai Hume, whose effort was followed up by Senegalese midfielder Habib Diarra. Although defender Dan Burn blocked the attempt, the rebound fell to Talbi, who converted from close range.

The goal marked Talbi’s fourth of the Premier League season in his 23rd appearance for Sunderland.

Deep into stoppage time, Dutch forward Brian Brobbey snatched the winner for the visitors, finishing a cross from substitute Enzo Le Fée in the 90th minute.

The win—Sunderland’s first after two consecutive defeats—takes them up to 43 points in 11th place, one point ahead of Newcastle.

Newcastle’s loss follows their heavy 7–2 defeat to FC Barcelona in the second leg of a UEFA Champions League final, as well as their elimination from the FA Cup round of 16 by Manchester City (3–1).
