Sharjah24: Sharjah Police (SP) successfully brought a vehicle to a safe stop after its cruise control malfunctioned, causing it to continue travelling at 80 km/h from Ahmed bin Hadid Roundabout towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. No injuries or damage were reported.

The General Command of Sharjah Police confirmed that Najd Patrols responded swiftly and professionally to the report, stopping the vehicle within minutes through a carefully executed traffic procedure that adhered to the highest safety standards.

Controlled manoeuvre ensures safety

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Marzouq Khalfan Al Naqbi, Director of the Patrols Department, explained that the Operations Room received the report at 3:11 pm on Friday from the driver, who stated that he was unable to control the vehicle’s speed due to a cruise control malfunction. The nearest patrol was immediately dispatched and positioned itself in front of the affected vehicle, driving at a constant speed before making a light, calculated contact to gradually reduce speed and disengage the cruise control.

Guidelines for drivers in similar situations

Al Naqbi stressed that, by the grace of God, the patrol stopped the vehicle safely without posing any risk to the driver or other road users. He advised drivers experiencing a cruise control malfunction to remain calm, keep a firm grip on the steering wheel, activate hazard lights, attempt to deactivate the cruise control, shift into neutral (N) if possible, apply the brakes gradually, and immediately contact the Operations Room on 999 while following officers’ instructions. He also cautioned against switching off the engine while the vehicle is in motion.
