Sharjah24-AFP: Forest fires across southern Argentina have burned more than 15,000 hectares in recent days, with the most severe damage reported in Patagonia. Authorities said the largest blaze has been burning since Monday near the town of Epuyén in the Andes, charring nearly 12,000 hectares, according to the Chubut Provincial Fire Service.

Firefighters are also battling additional blazes in Chubut and neighbouring Santa Cruz provinces, while another fire continues to burn within Los Alerces National Park. More than 500 firefighters, police officers, rescuers, and support teams are deployed, assisted by local residents on the front lines.

Rain offers temporary relief

Rainfall on Sunday brought some relief to residents in parts of Patagonia. Governor Ignacio Torres described conditions as calmer but warned that the situation remains critical, citing the province’s worst drought since 1965 and urging greater awareness of the impacts of climate change.
