The session opened with a welcoming address to the attendees, during which the forum organisers emphasised the importance of such scholarly gatherings in connecting Muslims with their authentic Islamic heritage, reviving the spirit of seeking and learning from scholars, and strengthening faith-based values derived from the Quran and Sunnah.
The lecturer explained that the book "The Light on the Virtues of Days and Months" is a valuable resource in its field and one of the earliest works to address the virtues of specific times and seasons. He noted that Imam Ibn Al Jawzi compiled in it the relevant religious texts and traditions concerning the merits of certain days and months, employing a scholarly approach that combines exhortation with sound legal reasoning.
The session emphasised that God Almighty creates, chooses, and selects as He wills. He chose messengers from among the angels, prophets from among humankind, the month of Ramadan from among the months, and the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah from among the days. It emphasised that this divine selection is based on wisdom and grace, and that it necessitates venerating these times and utilising them for acts of obedience and devotion. The session also examined the educational and spiritual dimensions of venerating virtuous times, explaining that understanding the merits of these days and seasons helps Muslims make the best use of their time, strengthens their connection with God Almighty, and instils mindfulness and diligence in worship. The lecturer emphasised that venerating God's sacred rites stems from piety and that seasons of goodness offer renewed opportunities for repentance and righteous deeds.
The gathering saw a remarkable turnout of students of Islamic knowledge and mosque attendees, who actively engaged with the scholarly presentation and praised the choice of the book and its subject matter, recognising its direct impact on the lives of Muslims, especially given the growing preoccupation with worldly affairs and the fast pace of life.
This scholarly gathering will run for 12 sessions, excluding Fridays, from January 10th to 22nd, following the Isha prayer at the Umm Ayman Baraka Mosque. The sessions are structured according to a programme designed to explain the book's contents gradually, emphasising both comprehension and application.
The organisation of this gathering is part of a series of scholarly activities implemented by the Islamic Forum in Sharjah, in line with its vision to disseminate Islamic knowledge, solidify the moderate approach, and revive Islamic heritage in a sound scholarly manner that addresses diverse segments of society and reinforces authentic religious values.
