Sharjah 24 – AFP: The Oklahoma City Thunder ended a three-game losing streak with a 119-98 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the charge

Canadian star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander spearheaded the Thunder’s performance, scoring 34 points, along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists, to guide his team past the Spurs and reclaim momentum in the Western Conference.

Overcoming San Antonio’s challenge

San Antonio had dominated the Thunder in their previous three matchups, hinting at a possible shift in Western Conference dynamics. However, Oklahoma City’s balanced offense and stifling defense finally proved decisive against Victor Wimpanyama’s squad at the Baycom Center.

Explosive third quarter secures the win

After a close first half, the Thunder scored 40 points in the third quarter, including 15 from Gilgeous-Alexander, building a 19-point lead that ultimately secured the victory.

Supporting contributions from the thunder

Jaylen Williams added 20 points and 3 assists, while Alex Caruso contributed 13 points off the bench, highlighting Oklahoma City’s depth in the win.

Defensive effort key to success

Gilgeous-Alexander emphasised that improved defense was crucial to overcoming San Antonio after three previous defeats. “Since our first game together, we couldn't stop them scoring, and we couldn't stop them from playing in the transition... but we did it tonight,” he said.

Spurs struggle despite Cassell and Wimpanyama

Stevon Cassell led San Antonio with 20 points, while Wimpanyama added 17, but the Spurs were unable to match the Thunder’s intensity.

Standings after the win

The victory improved Oklahoma City’s record to 34-7, keeping them atop the Western Conference, while San Antonio fell 6.5 games behind the leader.
