Sharjah 24: Dr Issa Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Language Educational Centre for Gulf States (ALECGS) in Sharjah, revealed details of the “Eighth International Arabic Language Conference in Sharjah” during a press briefing held at the centre.

The conference will take place on 28 and 29 January 2026, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, under the theme “In Arabic… We Create”. Representatives from 23 countries are expected to participate to discuss the requirements for teaching and learning Arabic, explore the associated opportunities and challenges, and anticipate future developments in the field.

Dr Al Hammadi told “Sharjah 24” that the conference follows up on the recommendations of past events and draws on proven practices, practical experiences, and the latest developments in the field. He noted that the research review phase involved the evaluation of 214 research abstracts and 163 full research papers, resulting in the approval of 85 studies according to established judging criteria. In addition, the conference will feature 20 contributions in the “Best Practices” category and eight training workshops, with participation from 118 researchers and experts representing 23 countries.

Dr Al Hammadi highlighted that the conference will focus on key areas, including the development of Arabic language curricula, teacher preparation and training, modern approaches to assessment, teaching strategies, and programmes, and the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in Arabic language education. The event will also explore programmes for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.
