Sharjah 24 – AFP: World number one Carlos Alcaraz of Spain advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, after defeating American Tommy Paul on Sunday.

Dominant performance on Rod Laver Arena

Alcaraz delivered an impressive display on Rod Laver Arena, overcoming his 19th-ranked opponent 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, 7-5. The victory highlighted the 22-year-old’s strong form and composure in key moments.

Quarterfinal clash ahead

Alcaraz will next face sixth-seeded Australian Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals. De Minaur secured his place with a convincing 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 win over Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik, ranked 10th.

Other top seeds progress

The day also saw world number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus advance to the quarterfinals, setting up a highly anticipated clash with one of the tournament’s brightest rising stars.
