Sharjah International Tour concludes its 11th edition

Sharjah24: The 11th edition of the Sharjah International Cycling Tour concluded on Tuesday at the courtyard of Sharjah Grand Mosque. Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Districts Affairs Department, and Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, crowned Estonian cyclist Rein Taaramae of Japan’s Kinan Racing Team as overall champion of the Tour. Hungarian rider Marcin Budzinski of the MBH Bank team finished second, while Adne van Engelen of Malaysia’s Terengganu team placed third. Kinan Racing Team also claimed the title of Best Team.

Final stage of the tour

The final stage began at Sharjah Falconers Club and concluded at Sharjah Grand Mosque, covering a distance of 100.99 km. The start signal was given by Sheikh Salem bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, in the presence of senior officials and sports figures.

Among those attending the start and awards ceremony were Sheikh Suhail bin Batti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for Sports Development and Competitiveness at the Ministry of Sports; Ahmed Nasser Al Fardan, former Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council; Abdullah Sultan Al Dah, Board Member of the Sharjah Sports Council and Chairman of the Organising Committee; Mohammed Obaid Al Hosan, Secretary-General of the Sharjah Sports Council; and Mansour Buassiba, President of the UAE Cycling Federation, alongside a number of Arab and international sports federation presidents and representatives of sponsoring and supporting entities.

Final stage results

The final stage was won by Alexander Salby of China’s Li Ning Star team, who claimed the gold medal. Dusan Rajovic of Slovenia’s Solution Tech team finished second, while Kristian Pita of Thailand’s Roojai Insurance team placed third.

Jersey winners

Rein Taaramae won the yellow jersey for overall classification, followed by Marcin Budzinski in second place and Adne van Engelen in third. Jens Reynders of Qatar Pro Cycling Team claimed the green jersey for best sprinter, while Sulaiman Manwal of Khorfakkan Club won the red jersey for best climber. Lorenzo Nespoli of Hungary’s MBH Bank team secured the white jersey for the best under-23 rider. Abdullah Jassim Al Ali of UAE Gen Z team was awarded the UAE flag jersey for the best Emirati cyclist in the stage.

On the sidelines of the closing ceremony, international chief commissaire Yves Kleinckert and the panel of international referees were honoured in appreciation of their efforts in ensuring the success of the event.
