Sharjah 24: Mohammed Muheisen, a renowned photojournalist and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, participated in the 10th edition of the Xposure International Photography Festival, organized by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau in Aljada, Sharjah.

During his session, “Moments in Time: The Ethics behind the Image,” Muheisen emphasised that, before being a visual storyteller, he considers himself a human being who travels the globe to capture the essence of others. He underscores the importance of timing in photography while also striving to effect positive change in the world. The importance of telling the stories of people in distress in their everyday lives, not just during crises. Drawing from years of experience with these communities, he stresses that understanding their experiences requires patience and time.

He advocates ethical photography, including asking for permission and respectfully representing individuals. Muheisen encourages storytellers to portray tough times, avoiding clichés and focusing on long-term engagement. He discusses building trust, protecting dignity, and capturing simple moments that reveal the humanity of those affected.

In an interview with “Sharjah 24,” Muheisen shared his belief that not capturing the stories of the world is like they never happened. He emphasizes that photography plays a crucial role in keeping these stories alive for future generations, as it captures important moments in human lives.

Over the past ten years of participating in the Xposure event, Muheisen has had the opportunity to meet many amazing photographers and storytellers. This event has created a supportive environment where new talents can grow and share their stories with the world. He expressed gratitude for the chances he has received through this prestigious event.
