Inter became the first side to secure a place in the semi-finals following their victory. The match was held in Monza rather than at the San Siro in Milan due to the Winter Olympics events taking place at the stadium.
Inter’s win had a French flavour, with goals from Ange-Yoan Bonny (35) and Andy Diouf (48), both assisted by their compatriots Issiaka Kamate and Marcus Thuram, respectively. Croatian player Sandro Kolnovic scored Torino’s only goal in the 57th minute.
Inter now share second place on the list of the most successful clubs in the competition with Roma, each having won the Coppa Italia nine times.
Torino, five-time winners of the tournament—most recently in 1993—saw their campaign end at the quarter-final stage after eliminating Roma in the round of 16.
In the remaining quarter-final ties, Atalanta, champions once in 1963, will face record holders Juventus, who have won the title 15 times, on Thursday. Napoli, league champions and six-time cup winners, will meet Como next Tuesday, while defending champions Bologna will conclude the quarter-finals against Lazio, who have lifted the trophy seven times, the following day.
Bologna claimed the title last year for the third time in their history, after 1970 and 1974, by defeating AC Milan 1–0 in the final.
The semi-finals will be played over two legs on 4 April and 22 April, with the final scheduled for 13 May.
