Bayern Munich completed the line-up of teams advancing to the German Cup semi-finals with a 2–0 win over RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals.
At the Allianz Arena, the Bavarian giants had to wait until the 64th minute to open the scoring against the 2022 and 2023 champions. England international striker Harry Kane converted a penalty after Leipzig’s Belgian goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt fouled Croatia’s Josip Stanišić. Colombian winger Luis Díaz doubled the lead three minutes later (67).
Bayern were the last team to secure a semi-final spot, joining Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen, and defending champions Stuttgart.
The Bavarian side have not won the cup since the 2019–2020 season, despite holding the record for most titles with 20, followed by Werder Bremen with six, and Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Schalke with five each.
Belgian coach Vincent Kompany’s team kept alive their hopes of another historic treble, as they currently lead the Bundesliga and have also advanced directly to the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
It is Bayern’s first German Cup semi-final appearance since the 2020 edition, which they went on to win.
