Russian Medvedev reaches last 16 of Dubai tennis championships

The world No. 11 secured his place in the last 16 of the Dubai ATP 500 tournament with a 6–4, 6–2 victory in the first round.

First meeting between the two players 

Medvedev had never previously faced the 21-year-old Chinese player before their recent encounters, having also met in the first round of the Qatar Open last week, where the Russian also claimed the win.

Elsewhere, Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 6–3, 6–4 to progress to the next round.

Meanwhile, Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas exited the competition after losing to France’s Ugo Humbert 6–4, 7–5.

Czech player Jiří Lehečka also advanced after overcoming Italy’s Luca Nardi 4–6, 6–4, 6–2.
