The evening was hosted by poet Dr Muthanna Ismail, who welcomed the attendees and expressed his deepest gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his support and patronage of literature and culture.
Dr Muthanna Ismail said: "Here, Sharjah flourishes with the fragrance of heritage and the legacy of the written word, and takes pride in a civilisation founded by the Sheikh of Knowledge and Literature, who spares no effort in supporting culture, its pioneers, and its lovers—Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah."
The readings began with poet Ahmed Al-Akhras, who recited a spiritual text, soaring in praise of the Prophet, his words imbued with imagery, metaphors, and love, illuminating his verses.
He then read "One in His Station," a journey into the self and its manifestations, into his being, which has passed through different phases.
Following him was Senegalese poet Abdul Aziz Lo, who recited a collection of poems distinguished by their delicate, sweet symbolism, journeying into the realms of language and the shadows of their meanings, carrying a bag of sorrow that revealed its depths.
The readings concluded with Egyptian poet and engineer Mohamed Fikry, whose poems were laden with questions as he contemplated the universe and humanity. His poem "How" elegantly expressed his inner turmoil.
In closing, poet Mohamed Al-Buraiki honoured the participating poets and the evening's host.
