Placing human rights at the forefront of priorities
Brigadier Abdullah Rashid Alai, Director of the Sharjah Correctional and Rehabilitation Institution, affirmed the institution's commitment to upholding human rights principles and placing them at the forefront of its priorities. This commitment is demonstrated through best practices in humanitarian and rehabilitative work that promote the values of justice and respect.
The institution provides a supportive and humane environment that contributes to the psychological and social well-being of inmates. He noted that during the holy month of Ramadan, the institution implemented a series of initiatives designed to strengthen human and family values, foster a spirit of tolerance and solidarity, and enhance inmates' psychological and social stability. These initiatives also support their rehabilitation after their release.
Strengthening family bonds and instilling religious and moral values
The Ramadan programme at the Correctional and Rehabilitation Institution included a communal Iftar (fast-breaking meal) for inmates, as well as interactive gatherings between them and their families. This initiative strengthened family bonds and reinforced inmates' ties with their relatives. The program also featured religious lectures and cultural and educational awareness programmes aimed at instilling religious and moral values.
