The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Rashid Ghanem Al Shamsi, committee rapporteur, with the attendance of committee members, several council members submitting the discussion request, and the council’s general secretariat.
At the start of the meeting, the committee highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration in supporting family stability and strengthening social cohesion, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which places the human and the family at the centre of sustainable development priorities in the emirate.
The committee reviewed various societal roles, programs, and initiatives to form a comprehensive vision supporting the preparation of discussion points. Topics included enhancing social cohesion through family-focused programs, the role of community councils in direct engagement with residents, and gathering their needs and suggestions.
The committee discussed the mechanisms of suburban councils and parent councils to support community work, ensuring sustainable programs and achieving a broad positive impact.
The discussion also covered competencies related to improving life quality in residential areas, including developing mechanisms to monitor and follow up residents’ requests, assessing public service and facility needs, and reinforcing the role of relevant authorities in providing advice on service projects.
The committee stressed the need to intensify efforts to provide a safe environment, reduce disturbances and negative behaviours, and promote initiatives for amicable dispute resolution between neighbours, contributing to family stability and social cohesion.
Discussions included the societal and humanitarian role of hosting residents’ occasions in councils, such as weddings and funerals, as platforms to strengthen community bonds. The committee highlighted the importance of developing this role to meet residents’ needs, including managing deceased affairs, supporting underprivileged families, expanding awareness programs, and engaging residents in serving their communities. Channels for receiving suggestions and feedback were also emphasised to improve life quality and achieve integrated community work.
The committee concluded the meeting by confirming its commitment to continue reviewing all proposed topics to prepare valuable discussion points, enriching the upcoming session on suburban affairs, and fulfilling community aspirations for family stability and improved quality of life in the emirate of Sharjah.
