Sharjah 24: Sharjah athletes topped the standings on the opening day of the third round of the Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which got under way on Saturday at Zayed Sports Complex. The event drew a strong crowd and featured intense competition among clubs and academies, reflecting the rising level of performance as the rounds progress.

Bouts in the under-12, under-14 and under-16 categories were notably close, with many matches decided by narrow margins. This created a fast-paced competitive rhythm and highlighted the importance of precision in execution and quick reactions on the mat, particularly in this format, which demands high mental readiness and the ability to handle the flow of the contest with little room for error.

Club standings at the end of day one

At the close of the day’s contests, Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club secured first place, followed by Palms Sports Academy in second, and ADMA Academy in third—standings that reflect the close level of competition, with the door still open for changes in the rounds.

The opening day’s competitions were attended, and the winners honoured, by Sheikha Saeed Al Kaabi, Member of the Federal National Council; Saeed Ali Al Ajel, Chairman of the UAE Sports for All Federation; Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Sabreen Hassan Al Yamahi, Director of the Fujairah Charity Association branch in Dibba; Latifa Khamis Al Abdouli, Board Member of Dibba Cultural Sports Club; and Safia Al Attar, Head of the Quality and Governance Office at the Fujairah Charity Association.

Under-18, adults and masters up next

The third round continues on Sunday with bouts in the under-18, adult and masters divisions, with expectations of an even higher level of competition as more categories come into play and the more decisive stages.
