Sharjah24 - WAM: Infrastructure development projects launched by the UAE in 2026 reflected a comprehensive national vision aimed at advancing development across multiple sectors and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
Integrated development approach
From energy and water to transport, roads, economic projects and urban development, the UAE continues to present a leading model in strategic planning and effective execution. This reflects its commitment to adopting advanced technologies, achieving high efficiency, and building integrated infrastructure that supports sustainable economic growth.
Energy and water sector progress
The energy and water sector witnessed significant progress, including the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure launching the first phase of a project to reduce energy and water consumption in government buildings, starting with Abdullah bin Omran Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah. The phase covers 60 government buildings with investments of AED 120 million.
Expanding sustainability initiatives
This initiative forms part of a broader plan, with a second phase targeting 360 government buildings at a cost of AED 1 billion, in partnership with the private sector, to enhance resource sustainability and achieve long-term savings.
Major energy projects
In parallel, Emirates Water and Electricity Company received multiple bids to develop the Al Nouf 1 independent power plant, with a production capacity of 3.3 gigawatts, making it the largest of its kind in the country.
Strategic projects in Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah Government also signed a long-term agreement for wastewater treatment with a consortium including Etihad Water and Electricity, TAQA Water Solutions, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), and SUEZ International Water Services. The project includes the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 60,000 cubic metres per day, expected to serve around 300,000 people upon completion.
