The announcement was made by Duilio Davino, Director of National Teams, who stated that Márquez’s contract is already signed and that he will succeed the current technical setup after the tournament cycle.
Márquez is currently serving as assistant coach for the national team and will continue in that role under Javier Aguirre, who is set to lead Mexico through the CONCACAF World Cup period until July 2026.
According to Davino, Márquez’s long-term objective will be to guide Mexico toward the 2030 World Cup, marking a clear transition into a new coaching era for the national team.
Nicknamed “The Caesar of Michoacán,” Márquez earned 147 caps for Mexico and played in five World Cups between 2002 and 2018, captaining the team in four of them. At club level, he won two UEFA Champions League titles with Barcelona, four La Liga championships, and a Ligue 1 title with Monaco.
Davino praised Márquez’s consistency and leadership, noting that his qualities as a coach mirror his discipline and influence as a player throughout his distinguished career.
