Mleiha Club hosts UAE’s first obstacle course championship

Sharjah 24: The UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation announced the first official obstacle course championship in the UAE, to be held under the federation's umbrella and in cooperation with sports authorities.

Held on May 10, the sports event will take place at the Mleiha Sports Club, with open participation for all segments of society, both citizens and residents.

The championship is supported by the Ministry of Sports, represented by the UAE Committee for the Care of Sports Talents and Support of National Sports, chaired by Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Assistant Undersecretary for Sports Development and Competitiveness at the Ministry of Sports.

The event will mark the launch of the obstacle course in the country for the first time, showcasing the federation’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and providing athletes with training environment.

Promoting sporting culture

Sheikh Suhail bin Butti affirmed that launching the event marks a significant step towards promoting this type of sport and enhancing its presence among various segments of society, which contributes to consolidating the sporting culture.

“The initiative reflects the trend towards adopting modern sports and creating a stimulating environment for discovering and developing sports talents in the UAE. Our support for these initiatives continues, stemming from our keenness in the committee and the Ministry of Sports to build a strong base of athletes capable of representing the country in regional and international forums in various sports, through providing quality programs and advanced infrastructure that contribute to achieving national sports goals and bringing UAE sports to new levels of excellence,” Sheikh Suhail bin Butti said.

Dr Huda Al Matroushi, President of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, expressed her appreciation for the great support provided by Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum to the talent sector, and his prominent contribution in promoting and developing modern pentathlon.

She also thanked Mohammed Sultan Al Ketbi, Chairman of Mleiha Club, for his support via hosting a training center for modern pentathlon and for allocating a plot for the constructing the obstacle course
