The Council also discussed recommendations regarding the RTA's policies, presented by Dr Sultan Khamis Al Zaabi, who summarized what was covered in a previous meeting. He pointed out important themes that support the RTA's goals and its commitment to sustainable development.
On October 27, 2025, during a previous session, the Council had reviewed the RTA's policies, with the presence of Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of the RTA, and his team. They talked about everything that can help the Authority in its work.
A key suggestion from the council was to form a new group that would help different organizations in Sharjah work together more effectively. This team would make sharing information easier and help to better plan project timelines, which could lead to faster project completion, higher quality work, and a more efficient use of money. Ultimately, these efforts aim to make Sharjah a more efficient and sustainable city with modern and safe infrastructure.
The council also recommended that local authorities work together to create laws that help reduce traffic jams and manage the use of roads and transportation in the area. This means helping to create rules that ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance the safety of everyone on the road.
Additionally, the council stressed the importance of using new technology, including smart solutions and artificial intelligence, to analyze traffic data and predict future traffic patterns. This involves finding effective ways to keep up with the growth of the population and urban areas, by improving road efficiency, planning new neighborhoods, and ensuring that existing transportation systems work well together.
Another important recommendation was to study moving heavy trucks away from Emirates Road and onto Al Watan Road to ease traffic congestion on busy routes. This would involve coordinating with the necessary authorities and potentially relocating truck stations.
The council also pointed out the need for special lanes for buses and priority vehicles, which could later be adapted for modern transportation methods. They stressed the importance of creating a connected transport system that allows for easy travel between different destinations throughout the emirate, maintaining the same number of lanes on major roads to prevent congestion.
Furthermore, the recommendations included plans to improve road networks to include effective drainage systems for stormwater. This would help maintain smooth traffic flow, protect infrastructure, and ensure the emirate is prepared for climate change and weather challenges.
The council wrapped up its meeting by highlighting that these recommendations are part of its ongoing efforts to support Sharjah's commitment to sustainable urban development and to improve quality of life. This is achieved through advanced infrastructure that can keep pace with population growth while meeting transportation and service needs safely and efficiently.
The Chairman of the Council expressed gratitude to the committee that prepared the recommendations, the Public Utilities Committee, and all members who contributed their insights, including the General Secretariat staff, for their collaborative efforts in enriching the discussion.
At the end of the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Council, Mira Khalifa Al Muqarrab, announced that the next session will take place on Monday morning, December 8th, focusing on the policies of the Sharjah Planning and Survey Department.
