"Mother Earth" is a book designed for kids that combines storytelling with science to share an important message: taking care of our planet is essential for keeping our children healthy and ensuring a bright future for everyone. The book uses beautiful poetry alongside real scientific facts to show that working for better health and fairness is the best way to tackle the environmental and health challenges we face today.
The conference was put together by the Italian Society of Environmental Medicine (SIMA) along with other groups, including the Environmental Health Research Organization (EHRO), the Spanish Society of Environmental Medicine and Changes (SESMA), and the Laureate Science Alliance (LSA). It took place on International Children’s Rights Day, which made the event even more meaningful. The focus was on bringing together science, literature, and policy to protect both children's health and their rights to a safe and healthy environment.
The conference brought together a wide range of people from around the world, including top experts in medicine and health, as well as students, researchers, and policymakers. They came together to talk about new studies showing how our surroundings and genetics can affect our health, especially for children and young people. The discussions highlighted serious health issues such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, and conditions affecting the brain and development, along with type 1 diabetes.
At the book launch event, Dr Al Nuaimi shared an inspiring message: “If we teach children to care for our planet, they will grow up to be adults who protect it. By taking care of the Earth, they also take care of themselves, their families, and future generations.”
Choosing the University of Chieti as the location for the event was a thoughtful decision, as it's known worldwide for its important work in the field of epigenetics, which is the study of how our environment can influence our genes. This setting was perfect for bringing together science and literature in a meaningful way. The concept of Mother Earth was highlighted, reminding everyone that taking care of our environment is not just a scientific concern, but also a shared moral and human duty.
The launch of Mother Earth at this international conference, which follows its first appearance at the Sharjah International Book Fair, is a significant step toward increasing awareness about the importance of protecting children from environmental dangers. It also aims to change how we think about medicine and health by focusing on prevention and fairness for everyone. The event united scientists and compassionate individuals, highlighting that taking care of our planet is essential for safeguarding life itself.
