The milestone broadens the University’s global alumni reach and strengthens engagement with graduates worldwide. The inauguration took place at the National Museum of Qatar, with approximately 150 alumni from Qatar and several from the UAE attending.
The event was attended by Mr Rashid Abdulrahman Al Ali, Chargé d’Affaires at the UAE Embassy in Qatar; Dr Salah Taher Al Haj, UOS Vice-Chancellor for Community Affairs; Dr Amal Al Ali, Director of the Alumni Association Office; and officials from the UAE Embassy in Qatar. Senior Alumni Officer Maryam Sultan Al Shamsi also represented the Association.
The UOS Alumni Association Office organised a joint forum for graduates of the University of Sharjah and Qatar University, hosted by Qatar University. The gathering featured panel discussions showcasing inspiring alumni success stories and highlighting their contributions to their countries and fields. The forum also explored opportunities for academic collaboration, research partnerships, and knowledge exchange.
The UOS delegation took part in various academic and community activities, including a guided tour of the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) with its President, His Excellency Dr Salem Al-Naemi. The visit included laboratories, research centres, and the College of Health Sciences, ending with an exchange of commemorative shields. The delegation also visited Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education to discuss future collaboration.
Dr Salah Al Haj affirmed that establishing the Qatar chapter demonstrates the University’s dedication to strengthening ties with its graduates and recognising their achievements. He also mentioned that the initiative promotes academic collaboration with Qatari institutions and supports community development both regionally and internationally.
Dr Amal Al Ali commended the collaborative efforts of alumni in Qatar, highlighting their role in founding the new chapter and welcoming new members. She stressed that they act as ambassadors of the University and play a crucial role in enhancing communication between graduates and their alma mater.
