The initiative embodies the University’s global mission to promote Arabic language education and strengthens its academic footprint in East Asia, with further cohorts set to arrive under existing international cooperation agreements.
The Language Centre offers intensive foundation programmes designed to develop essential Arabic language skills within a comprehensive academic framework. Students benefit from an engaging learning environment that features smart classrooms, interactive digital resources, e-learning platforms, and highly qualified instructors with substantial expertise in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.
His Excellency Prof. Awad Al Khalaf, Chancellor of Al Qasimia University, affirmed that the Language Centre is a vital academic pillar contributing to the university’s global mission. He highlighted its role in equipping students linguistically and culturally to succeed in their academic journeys, noting that its communicative teaching approaches support college-level programmes and foster independent learning through modern technologies. He added that the culturally inclusive environment reflects the diversity of the university’s students, representing over 134 nationalities.
Prof. Al Khalaf emphasised that these efforts mirror the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the founder of AQU, to establish the university as a global centre dedicated to the promotion of the Arabic language, the Holy Qur’an, and cultural exchange among nations.
Dr Mohammed Sahsah, Director of the Language Centre, explained that the Centre adheres to international benchmarking frameworks, including the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), with structured levels for beginners, intermediates, and advanced learners, along with precise placement tests. He announced the launch of the “Al Qasimia University Arabic Series for Non-Native Speakers,” a seven-book curriculum that integrates linguistic and cultural content and incorporates AI tools and modern educational technologies. QR codes embedded in the series grant access to audiovisual resources and supplementary exercises.
The Centre continues to improve and grow its language programmes both within and outside the University, aiming to equip non-Arabic speakers with strong language skills that enhance their understanding of Arabic and its culture. These initiatives prepare graduates to serve as ambassadors for the language in their home countries, fully aligned with AQU’s mission: “Sharjah in location… global in message.”
