Sharjah 24: In an effort to promote a love for literature and create spaces for meaningful conversations, Sharjah Capability Development, along with the Rubu’ Qarn Center for Theatre and Performing Arts, organized a new session in its "Ruwaq" series (a gallery) called "In the Words of Shakespeare." This event led participants on an exploration of the works of the renowned playwright William Shakespeare, delving into timeless themes that resonate in modern times.

The session took place at Kashisha Park in Sharjah and attracted 25 people interested in literature, reading, and the performing arts. The discussion was led by writer Jawahir Al Kaabi, who provided insights into Shakespeare's significant impact on theater, language, and how we remember stories. She explained how his works have shaped the development of performing arts over the years.

During the gathering, participants reflected on why Shakespeare's plays continue to be influential across different times and cultures. They discussed important themes such as love, ambition, justice, and fate, exploring how his characters balance personal choices with the greater forces that shape their lives. This revealed deeper insights into human nature and the changes people undergo in moments of both weakness and strength.

An interactive activity called "The Modern Shakespeare" invited participants to reinterpret some of Shakespeare's famous quotes in today’s language, sharing their own viewpoints and experiences. This exercise highlighted how literature and theater can evolve while still connecting with people across generations.

“Ruwaq”, in partnership with various cultural organizations, aims to provide platforms that encourage reading, spark thoughtful discussions, and promote the sharing of ideas. It seeks to enhance appreciation for literature and connect deeper meanings of texts to the human experience, all while celebrating performing arts as a vibrant extension of literary works.
