Sharjah 24: As part of the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day commemorations, Sharjah Children, an affiliate of the Rubu' Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, in cooperation with the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD), organised a programme for senior citizens as part of the “Khattar Al dar” (Visitors of the Home) initiative. Children participated in a communal Iftar (breaking of the fast) with the elderly in a Ramadan atmosphere reflecting the values of compassion and social connection. The event took place on Monday, March 9, 2026.

The program included a visit by 20 members of Sharjah Children to the elderly care home affiliated with SSSD. This initiative aimed to instil humanitarian values in the children and strengthen intergenerational communication. The visit also sought to introduce the participants to the customs, traditions, and cultural heritage of the community, while fostering a spirit of empathy and social responsibility and encouraging them to engage in volunteer work.

Interactive activities

The programme included a range of interactive activities that brought children together with senior citizens, such as exchanging proverbs and asking questions inspired by their experiences and life stories. Recreational activities also contributed to creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.

This initiative is part of Sharjah Children's ongoing efforts to instil national identity and humanitarian values in its members through quality programmes that promote respect for the elderly and appreciation for the role of family. This contributes to building a generation that is aware of and committed to its core values, and capable of practicing humanitarian work in their daily lives.
