District councils hold expanded meeting to elect deputies

Sharjah24: As part of ongoing efforts to enhance community engagement, an expanded meeting was held following the formation of several district councils affiliated with the Districts Affairs Department. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Districts Affairs Department, Dr Abdullah Sulaiman Al Kabouri, Director of the Department, along with council members and department staff.

Held at the Sharjah Archaeology Authority headquarters, the meeting included a presentation on the department’s regulatory by-laws and the organisation of secret ballots to elect deputy chairpersons of the newly formed councils. At the Al Rahmaniyah District Council, Sultan Abdulrahman Saif Al Asam Al Suwaidi was elected deputy chairman, in the presence of the council chairman, Ahmed Saif Ahmed bin Handhal Al Tameemi, and members.

In the Al Hamriyah Area Council, Matar Juma Khalifa Al Shamsi was elected deputy chairman following a secret ballot attended by the council chairman, Abdullah Mohammed Obaid bin Al Rukn Al Shamsi, and members.

New appointments across district councils

At the Al Hawami District Council, Dr Amina Yousuf Khalfan Al Naqbi was elected deputy chairperson in the presence of the council chairman, Khamis Salem Khamis Muslim Al Naqbi, and members.
The elections also took place at Seih Al Khor District Council, which was formed for the first time, where Khalid Ali Abdullah Al Raisi was elected deputy chairman, in the presence of the council chairman, Mohammed Khalfan Al Mughni Al Naqbi, and members.

Future plans and coordination

The meeting also addressed mechanisms for work in the coming phase and ways to strengthen coordination and integration between district councils and the Districts Affairs Department, in line with the leadership’s vision to support community initiatives and achieve sustainable development.

Community councils under the Districts Affairs Department are considered key pillars of community work in the emirate, playing an active role in strengthening communication with residents, supporting social initiatives, and reinforcing values of belonging and shared social responsibility.
