The exhibition unfolds across six thematic sections, each highlighting a distinct facet of Darwish’s life and identity: The Son, rooted in the memory of his village, Al-Birwa; The Poet, who transformed language into a homeland; The Exiled, who reshaped absence into belonging; The Unlucky Lover, marked by fleeting love; The Activist, whose words carried resistance; and The Absent Presence, where his voice continues to resonate beyond his passing.
Within the Unlucky Lover section, the exhibition features Tribute to Mahmoud Darwish by sculptor and visual poet Mona Saudi, alongside screenings of the documentary Mahmoud Darwish: The Land as Language, directed by Simone Bitton. The film includes reflections from Egyptian writer and translator Hayat Al-Heeni on her brief marriage to Darwish.
The exhibition also showcases works by Palestinian artist Suleiman Mansour, including Jamal Al-Mahamel (The Camel of Burdens) from the Barjeel Art Foundation collection, which symbolises exile, endurance and Palestinian steadfastness.
