Sharjah24: From the heart of neighbourhoods, among families and children, and in the memory of place, Masrah Al Farjan 2025 concluded its theatrical performances at Al Seyouh Park, drawing a strong public turnout of families and community members. The event embodied the vision of the Rubu’ Qarn Centre for Theatre and Performing Arts, part of the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, to position theatre as a living community practice that goes to the audience rather than waiting for them, transforming open spaces into creative platforms alive with human stories and authentic values.

This distinctive experience reinforced the role of theatre as a space for connection, a tool for building awareness and a platform for discovering talent, within a cultural project that places people and families at the heart of the theatrical scene in Sharjah’s cultural and arts landscape.

Competitive performances under the theme ‘A family that loves theatre’

Held under the theme “A family that loves theatre”, the performances competed for gold, silver and bronze awards for the top three theatrical productions. Participating groups presented works addressing human and social issues inspired by lived community realities, leaving a clear artistic imprint that reflected the diversity of creative perspectives.

Seven theatrical productions took part, presented by groups from different neighbourhoods across the Emirate of Sharjah. “The mysterious eyes” from Al Rahmaniyah explored confronting fear through a suspenseful journey inside an abandoned museum, while “Laughter amid chaos” from Al Qadisiyah offered a humanistic vision of laughter as a means of survival amid life’s pressures.

Stories of identity, memory and values

“The spirit of the union” from Al Nouf narrated the nation’s story across generations, affirming that unity is a renewed spirit built on values and work. “Remnants of yesterday” from Nad Al Seyouh delved into human memory, presenting a comprehensive vision of reconciliation with the past.
Meanwhile, “They spoke in proverbs” from Al Sharq highlighted folk wisdom and the consequences of arrogance, while “Who am I?” from Al Qadisiyah examined the struggle for identity and the inner voices that shape the individual. The community performances concluded with “When colours ran away” from Al Muhallab, raising questions about human values and moral responsibility.

Training, international exposure and youth empowerment

The performances bore the creative imprint of participants in the Masrah Al Farjan project, marking the culmination of skills acquired through intensive, specialised workshops delivered by the Rubu’ Qarn Centre for Theatre and Performing Arts throughout 2025. These workshops were led by professional experts from within the UAE and abroad, contributing to the refinement of emerging talents.
Participants also took part in theatrical workshops outside the country, including in Egypt, Tunisia and China, led by theatre specialists from those nations. This exposure opened broad horizons for promising theatrical talents in the emirate, enabling them to showcase their skills through live artistic experiences rooted in reality.

As part of its support for young talent and the enrichment of theatrical practice, Masrah Al Farjan hosted additional creative productions, including “Dreams of the youth”, which embodied young people’s aspirations; “The bag” by Nasha’at Kalba Centre; “The fortress of stories” by Nasha’at Al Thameed Centre; and “The good old days” by Sajaya Girls Centre in Khorfakkan, all of which formed rich artistic milestones within the programme.

Looking ahead

The performances concluded in a celebratory atmosphere, reflecting strong audience engagement and the appreciation of a specialised judging panel. Once again, Masrah Al Farjan affirmed that when theatre leaves the hall and enters the neighbourhood, it becomes a genuine platform for discovering creativity and a welcoming space for families and all members of society.

The conclusion of the performances does not mark the end of the Rubu’ Qarn Centre for Theatre and Performing Arts programmes, but rather a prelude to a new launch. This Saturday, 10 January, the centre will announce the winning groups of the Masrah Al Farjan awards, as well as the top 20 theatrical talents — five talents for each age category: children, youth, girls and young adults — alongside additional awards and the unveiling of the centre’s key programmes for 2026.
