FNC joins IRENA Legislators and Regulators Forum 2026

Advancing legislative and regulatory action

The forum focused on how legislative and regulatory measures can accelerate renewable energy deployment, attract large-scale investment, and ensure an inclusive and sustainable energy transition as countries move from climate pledges to implementation.

The FNC delegation included Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence Affairs, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee and the Council’s representative to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Dr. Sedra Rashid Al Mansouri, FNC member.

In his address, Dr. Al Nuaimi highlighted that energy is a fundamental pillar for shared prosperity, noting that inequality in access to energy contributes to instability, while sustainable energy can foster cooperation and peace.

Dr. Al Nuaimi stressed the role of parliamentarians in supporting IRENA’s mission, building partnerships, and promoting dialogue and openness to address common global challenges.

Energy transition as a humanitarian imperative

Delivering the FNC’s address on behalf of Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, Dr. Sedra Rashid Al Mansouri emphasized that the energy transition must be approached from both scientific and humanitarian perspectives amid escalating climate challenges.

Strengthening climate governance

Dr. Sedra noted that renewable energy is no longer just a technical choice but a developmental and humanitarian necessity, underscoring the FNC’s role in strengthening climate governance, reviewing relevant policies, and supporting alignment with the UAE’s national commitments.
