Dr Engineer Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Holy Quran Academy, and Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, signed the memorandum in the presence of Abdullah Khalaf Al Hosani, Secretary General of the Holy Quran Academy, and His Excellency Abu Bakr Al Kindi, Director of SIH, along with senior officials from both entities.
Dr Khalifa Al Tunaiji said the partnership aligns with the Academy’s goal of using modern technologies to support the Holy Quran and its museums, particularly in restoring and archiving manuscripts that document the Quran’s history and the development of Quranic studies. He emphasized that the program will ensure the security and accessibility of rare originals for researchers.
He added that working with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, a UNESCO-registered institution, will help archive manuscripts, protect them from damage and loss, and enhance accessibility for specialists. The collaboration will also promote the Academy’s work at international events hosted by the Institute.
Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam described the partnership as a vital step for strengthening systems that safeguard documentary legacy. He noted that the Institute will provide expertise to protect Quranic manuscripts according to high professional standards while developing a sustainable digital archiving model.
Dr Al Musallam also highlighted the Institute’s commitment to fostering global cooperation through its International Cultural Heritage Organisations Centre. The centre facilitates knowledge exchange between cultural institutions and supports joint initiatives to protect and sustain heritage for future generations.
The Sharjah Institute for Heritage is a UNESCO Category 2 international hub for cultural heritage capacity building. It is widely recognised for its achievements in research, documentation, and preservation, making it a leading institution in its field.
