The village comprises 13 historic heritage houses built more than 100 years ago, telling a story of resilience in the face of successive challenges across the ages. It is considered one of the most important centres of ancient human settlement, located in Wadi “Washi” in the historic city of Khorfakkan on Sharjah’s eastern coast. Its rocky surroundings also feature engravings dating deep into history, including depictions of camels and horses dating back to 2000 BC.
The “World’s Coolest Winter” campaign, launched this year and implemented by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism in cooperation with various tourism, culture, and heritage authorities across the UAE, highlights the country’s diverse tourist destinations and their role in promoting heritage and leisure tourism.
In addition to its authentic natural and heritage charm, the village has received significant attention from tourism and hospitality authorities in the Emirate of Sharjah. The Najd Al Maqsar project was launched in two phases to develop the area, enhance its tourism appeal, and position it as one of the leading luxury hospitality and heritage tourism projects in the city of Khorfakkan.
The first phase of the project was inaugurated in June 2024 and included seven luxury heritage accommodation units overlooking the mountains, along with a restaurant and reception lounge, spanning an area of 17,210 square metres. The buildings were meticulously restored and renovated to reflect the spirit of the past, alongside a range of service facilities.
The project also includes walking trails that allow guests to ascend to the village’s upper fort, built more than 300 years ago at the mountain’s summit, as well as providing residents with access to Al Rafisah Dam via a dedicated mountain trail.
The second phase, scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2026, will add a collection of luxury heritage houses set among farms overlooking the valley, covering an area of 16,500 square metres. It will include a variety of hospitality options, shared gathering spaces, and additional walking trails.
Najd Al Maqsar Village embodies the spirit of traditional mountain architecture, with its buildings harmoniously blending into the surrounding natural environment. The historic fort is one of the village’s most prominent landmarks, distinguished by its strategic location, which reinforced its role as a natural observation point over the surrounding area. It also offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the site’s military and strategic history.
The village has witnessed strong interest from visitors and tourists seeking unspoilt natural and heritage beauty, particularly during the winter season. Its landscape, which blends human civilisation with a mountainous environment, offers a rich experience for visitors who come to admire its beauty, discover its history, and enjoy various activities and interests in a tranquil natural setting.
The village offers a wide range of tourism activities that combine exploration, adventure, and relaxation in the heart of nature. These include strolling through the village’s historic pathways and practising hiking, made possible by the village’s rugged mountainous terrain. Long walking trails pass through several points that provide opportunities to observe local plants and unique wildlife species.
The village is also an ideal destination for camping, featuring Kareen Houses—rooms designed in a traditional style that celebrates authentic Emirati culture. These houses offer stunning views of the mountain village and the coast.
In addition, a selection of specialised restaurants allows visitors to enjoy traditional Emirati cuisine alongside international dining options, such as Washi Restaurant, which offers a diverse range of global dishes. This is complemented by the organisation of events that reflect Emirati heritage at Najd Al Maqsar Village, including handicraft workshops that give visitors insight into traditional weaving and pottery tools, as well as cultural performances and folk arts.
