Sharjah24: Sharjah Police participated in a dialogue session as part of the “Intellectual Property Schools” initiative, held at the American University of Sharjah and organised by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism in cooperation with Nissan Middle East. The participation comes within the framework of supporting national efforts to promote respect for intellectual property rights and to strengthen legal awareness.

Presentation on trademark law enforcement

As part of the session, Lieutenant Ahmed Balhaif, Head of the Digital Crimes Section at Sharjah Police, delivered a presentation addressing law enforcement in the field of trademarks. He reviewed the system for combating counterfeit trademarks, the legal procedures and penalties resulting from trademark infringement practices in the UAE, and the methods for distinguishing between counterfeit and misleading trademarks. He also highlighted the role of Sharjah Police in enforcing legislation and protecting intellectual property rights.

Strengthening legal awareness and protecting intellectual property

Brigadier Naji Mohammed Al Hammadi, Deputy Director-General of the General Department of Criminal Security and Ports at Sharjah Police, affirmed that participation in the programme falls within the authority’s awareness and security role aimed at knowledge transfer and at strengthening a culture of respect for intellectual property rights within the community. He noted that this represents a fundamental pillar in building a legally aware society committed to relevant laws and legislation, supporting the intellectual property protection system and combating violations, thereby contributing to the achievement of sustainable economic development in the UAE.
