Sharjah24: Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), in cooperation with the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority – Kalba Civil Defence Centre, organised a two-day training programme to raise awareness of workplace safety and security standards. The programme targeted technicians and administrative staff in the Kalba Department and forms part of the Authority’s strategy to establish a comprehensive and structured approach to occupational health and safety, while strengthening employees’ awareness of preventive measures and procedures.

Reducing risks and preventing accidents

Engineer Yousef Al Hammadi, Director of the Kalba Department at the Authority, explained that the workshop aimed to enhance awareness of safety standards to help prevent risks and accidents, as well as to improve response mechanisms should incidents occur.

Fire safety and emergency response

The workshop covered several topics, including types of fires and how to deal with each, an overview of fire extinguisher categories and their proper use according to fire classification, and guidance on contacting and coordinating with Civil Defence in the event of a fire or accident, alongside assessing the risks associated with each situation.

Strengthening coordination and preparedness

Al Hammadi emphasised that the workshop reflects ongoing coordination between the Authority and Sharjah Civil Defence to raise preventive awareness in the workplace. He highlighted the importance of such training in enhancing precautionary practices, improving efficiency and readiness across facilities, and ensuring rapid emergency response. He also thanked Civil Defence for its continued efforts to deliver regular training that promotes safety awareness across the emirate.
