Sharjah 24: Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) completed water connections for 3,518 new projects in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors by 2025. Water connections were also completed for 362 projects within the Al Qutaina 1 Housing Department, and water services were provided to 11 mosques, all according to the highest standards.

Achieving digital transformation

Engineer Faisal Al Sarkal, Director of the Water Department at SEWA, affirmed that the Authority operates in all its projects and initiatives within the framework of the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide advanced infrastructure, digital transformation, and the use of smart systems. The smart water metre installation project is one of the initiatives launched by SEWA as part of its efforts to achieve digital transformation, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce water loss.

Adhering to the highest standards

Al Sarkal explained that SEWA is continuously working to develop its services and deliver water to residential, commercial, industrial, and government buildings in all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah, adhering to the highest standards. This is achieved after the completion of the facility and the receipt of applications for permanent water connections. The Authority is also continuously working to streamline procedures and embrace digital transformation to enhance services provided to subscribers.

Providing better services to subscribers

Al Sarkal noted that SEWA is continuing its efforts to install smart water metres. During 2025, 105,822 mechanical water metres were replaced with smart metres. Additionally, 104,615 metres were inspected, and 9,834 metres were rehabilitated. This is part of SEWA's strategy to enhance the efficiency of water resource management, promote digital transformation, provide better services to subscribers, and leverage the advantages of smart metres. These advantages include higher accuracy compared to traditional meters and the ability to precisely monitor water consumption in different areas, thus contributing to water conservation and resource sustainability.

Al Sarkal added that the continued installation of smart water metres reflects the Authority’s commitment to providing the best services to citizens and residents and building a sustainable future in the Emirate of Sharjah, noting that the replacement of mechanical water metres with smart metres is ongoing in various areas and suburbs according to a plan and timetable.
