Engineer Hamad Al Tunaiji, Director of the Power Transmission Department, explained that SEWA continues its efforts to strengthen the electrical network and conduct periodic and preventive maintenance through qualified technical teams according to the highest standards. This is in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop electricity transmission and distribution stations in all areas of the Emirate of Sharjah, achieve stability and consistency in the networks, provide high-quality services, review the extensions, and conduct continuous maintenance and monitoring of all stations and networks. The program includes the maintenance of power transmission stations, transformers, and high-voltage lines spread throughout the Emirate. The Authority places great importance on routine and preventative maintenance, providing original spare parts, and ensuring their quality to maintain and guarantee the efficiency of equipment, stations, and facilities.
For his part, Engineer Abdullah Al-Kous, Deputy Director of the Power Transmission Department, confirmed that the maintenance programme implemented by the Authority during 2025 included maintenance of 144 electricity transmission and distribution stations at 132 kV and 33 kV. This also included upgrading protection systems by replacing 45 relays with advanced systems, renewing and treating the oil in 23 transformers, inspecting and analysing the safety of 45 132 kV transformers, renewing and restoring the efficiency of batteries in 40 stations, and replacing the under-load voltage regulators in 24 transformers. Additionally, the 220 kV dynamic transformer at the Al-Tai station was commissioned, contributing to improved voltage quality and enhanced network stability.
Furthermore, the project to convert the overhead lines connecting the Al-Tai and Industrial Area 17 stations to underground cables was implemented, enhancing reliability and reducing outages caused by environmental factors. He pointed out that SEWA is striving to develop its operational and technical processes, which monitor SEWA network, provide the necessary operating and maintenance supplies, review and implement maintenance programmes, and develop and improve the electricity network.
Al-Kous emphasised that all replacement, renovation, maintenance, and modification work relies on the technicians and engineers in the Authority's maintenance departments. He noted that applying modern maintenance concepts, which include preventive and corrective maintenance, ensures high operational efficiency, the highest levels of employee safety, minimal costs, and the preservation of equipment. This, in turn, helps extend the lifespan of units, increase production, and improve overall efficiency.
