Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Police (SP) , represented by the General Department of Prevention and Safety, launched the “Managing Knowledge in Crises and Disasters” programme.

The programme will be held periodically throughout the year with government entities and institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah, with the aim of enhancing knowledge exchange, raising the level of preparedness, and integrating roles in emergency and crisis management.

Proactive approach based on knowledge

His Excellency Brigadier Dr Ahmed Saeed Al Naour, Director General of the General Department of Prevention and Safety, indicated that the programme is a strategic step in establishing a proactive approach based on knowledge, joint planning, effective partnership, and leveraging practical experiences in the field of crisis and disaster management. It relies on specialised knowledge workshops and field visits in cooperation with partners, with the aim of assessing capabilities and resources and enhancing field coordination. This will positively impact the speed of response and the efficiency of managing emergency events.

Collaborations

For his part, Colonel Mohammed Majid Al Shamsi, Director of the Crisis and Disaster Management Department at SP, explained that the number of workshops were implemented with the participation of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), the Sharjah Municipalities Affairs Department, the Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA), and Etihad Electricity and Water.

The workshops addressed the concepts of the emergency system, organisational and applied aspects, and success stories in managing events. Al Shamsi explained that its outputs will contribute to organising reciprocal field visits to operations centers and concerned authorities, and forming liaison teams and crisis teams at the sector level, which enhances readiness and integrated partnership that ensures the sustainability of security and safety in the emirate.
