His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazien noted that the branch will serve cities across the Eastern Region more effectively, streamlining procedures and providing technical and administrative support to fishermen, thereby improving the overall quality of services offered to the maritime community.
Abu Ghazien explained that the new branch will also support the aquaculture farm project planned for Khorfakkan, one of the strategic initiatives to enhance the sustainability of marine resources and diversify fish production, in line with the emirate’s food security objectives.
He added that establishing the Authority’s office within the Sharjah Marine Sciences Research Centre at the University of Khorfakkan reflects its commitment to integrating institutional work with scientific research. The move will support applied research that contributes to protecting fish stocks and to developing sustainable policies and programmes in the fisheries sector.
The Chairman emphasised that the new branch is part of a broader strategic vision to strengthen food security, promote environmental sustainability, and support coastal communities and maritime professions, in line with Sharjah’s efforts to preserve and develop natural resources for future generations.
