The initiative forms part of a comprehensive plan to support coastal communities and upgrade marine facilities, providing modern services that meet the needs of both fishermen and recreational users while ensuring a safe and organised environment for marine activities.
As part of the project, additional berths were built in Al Jubail and Al Khan to meet the requirements of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority. The Al Khan slipway was also replaced with a precast concrete structure measuring 12 metres wide by 50 metres long.
The new slipway is designed to facilitate boat launching and retrieval, improve traffic flow and reduce time and effort for users, while enhancing safety through a robust, marine-resistant engineering design.
The department said the project will support the traditional fishing sector, stimulate economic activity in coastal areas, and provide advanced marine facilities meeting the highest engineering and environmental standards.
It noted that the work was completed on schedule, with efforts made to minimise environmental impact throughout all phases of implementation. The project is expected to strengthen the role of Al Jubail and Al Khan as vital marine hubs supporting both economic and recreational activities.
