The House organises this workshop annually due to its importance in highlighting the significance of this art form and its close connection to the classical Arabic poem in terms of both form and content. The Arab world, which knew poetry before its formal rules were established, was accustomed to composing poetry according to its authentic rules, which belong to the Arabic poem and its ancient roots.
Mohammed Al Buraiki, Director of the Sharjah Poetry House, stated: “Cultural activity in the Emirate of Sharjah never ceases. Thanks to God and then to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, various literary events continue, including this workshop, which is held annually. This ensures that poetry enthusiasts, intellectuals, the discerning public, and poets themselves remain constantly informed about this art form, given its profound value in the Arab consciousness since the dawn of poetry.”
The Director of the Poetry House added: “The workshop is divided into several themes, including rhyme, metre, and prosody; the technical aspects of writing poetry, such as language, imagery, imagination, and symbolism; and the dramatic adaptation of poetry and the art of recitation. We have selected a group of specialists for these themes, and the lecturers will include poet Dr Mohammed Al-Hourani, artist Louay Shana, and poet Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Darbas.”
It is worth noting that the workshop is free of charge and will run from April 13th to 28th, 2026.
