Sharjah’s uniformed entities, represented by Sharjah Police, the Amiri Guard Headquarters, Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, and the Sharjah Police Academy, held a joint coordination meeting with the University of Kalba on Wednesday at the Academy’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by directors general, department heads and a number of officials, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the participating entities and the University of Kalba.
The meeting was attended by Dr Najwa Al Housani, representing the Chancellor of the University of Kalba; Dr George Nassis, Acting Deputy Chancellor of the University; and Dr Noor Dawood, Assistant Professor at the University, alongside representatives of the uniformed entities.
Discussions focused on ways to enhance cooperation between the participating entities and the University of Kalba. A number of new academic programmes proposed by the University were reviewed, along with their alignment with the needs of personnel in the uniformed entities, in a way that contributes to developing their academic and professional competencies.
In statements to “Sharjah 24”, Brigadier General Dr Mohammed Khamis Al Othmani, Director of the Sharjah Police Academy, said: “We were honoured today by the presence of representatives from the University of Kalba, as part of efforts to strengthen joint cooperation. This coordination meeting comes in implementation of the recommendation of the University of Kalba’s Board of Trustees, chaired by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, regarding the introduction of new specialisations that meet the needs of uniformed entities.
He added that this cooperation contributes to the development of specialised academic programmes that keep pace with the requirements of security work, and provides personnel with the opportunity to complete their studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, thereby enhancing their professional competence and institutional performance.”
Representatives of the University of Kalba presented a framework of proposed academic programmes, including specialised offerings within the College of Sports Science through a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Science, with tracks in coaching and sports management. Upcoming programmes include a Bachelor of Science in Sports Rehabilitation and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Nutrition and Preventive Wellness.
The presentation also covered the College of Computing and Intelligent Systems, including a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Mathematics and Interactive Technologies, reflecting a direction towards modern disciplines aligned with future needs.
The meeting also addressed mechanisms to enable personnel from security entities to enrol in these programmes, and explored frameworks for cooperation between the University and the uniformed entities to achieve integration in human capital development and support Sharjah’s vision of investing in education and specialised training.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed to continue joint coordination and to study the proposals presented in preparation for their approval and implementation, in a manner that serves the personnel of the participating entities and achieves the desired strategic objectives.
