The first day of the symposium saw a significant intellectual exchange, with the scientific sessions focusing on three main themes aimed at protecting the developing mind and guiding the use of technology towards constructive paths. The first theme addressed “Information Chaos and its Impact on the Minds of Children and Youth,” warning against unfiltered content that may undermine innate principles and inherited values.
The second session will explore how to "employ modern technologies in service of Islamic values and principles." Technology, as a neutral tool, can be harnessed as an effective means of da'wah (Islamic outreach) and education when properly utilised. The first day's programme will conclude with a discussion on "Islamic Ethics in Raising Children within the Digital Environment," during which a roadmap will be developed for parents and educators to help instil self-discipline in children in the virtual world.
Dr Ahmed Al-Ketbi, Head of Media at Al Muntada Al Islami, emphasised that organising this seminar is a response to wise directives that stress the need to fortify society and protect its national and religious identity.
Al-Ketbi stated, "Al Muntada Al Islami's vision seeks to preserve social cohesion and ensure the soundness of the family structure in the face of successive technological challenges. Our objectives focus on striking a delicate balance between benefiting from the achievements of our time and preserving the authentic values that form the foundation of our Emirati society." He added, clarifying the institution's cultural role: "We believe it should serve and support society. Hence, the importance of these activities lies in providing 'intellectual protection' that ensures the stability of society, as awareness represents the first line of defence against any cultural or value-based infiltration that may threaten the integrity of the social fabric."
The symposium is scheduled to continue on its second day, with discussions on rulings regarding electronic entertainment, the impact of technology on mental health, and privacy and cybersecurity issues from an ethical perspective, aiming to produce practical recommendations that serve educational and social institutions in the country.
This symposium embodies Sharjah’s pioneering role as a beacon of knowledge and culture, and the commitment of its institutions to addressing contemporary issues through an enlightened Islamic vision that ensures a secure future for generations to come.
