Sharjah24: The Spanish Football Federation handed Real Zaragoza's Argentine goalkeeper, Esteban Andrada, a 13-match ban on Wednesday, 29 April, after he punched a Huesca player in the face during a second-division derby at the weekend.

The federation's disciplinary committee confirmed that both Andrada and his club would face financial penalties. The breakdown of the ban tells its own story — 12 matches for the punch itself and one additional match as an automatic consequence of the red card he received before the incident. The suspension not only prematurely ends his season but also significantly affects Zaragoza's already fragile battle to avoid relegation.

How it happened

The 35-year-old, who joined the club on loan from Mexican side Monterrey, shoved Huesca's Jorge Pulido to the ground, earning a second yellow card in the process. That should have marked the end of the incident. Instead, Andrada lost his head completely, turned back and struck Pulido, igniting a mass brawl on the pitch deep into stoppage time. Security forces had to physically restrain him before escorting him to the dressing room.

Andrada speaks out

There was no attempt to deflect blame afterwards. Speaking to the press after the final whistle, Andrada said plainly: "The truth is, I'm very, truly sorry for what happened. It's a bad image for the club, the fans, and, certainly, for a professional like myself. So I'm truly sorry."
