Held at its headquarters in Samnan, the seminar focused on the impact of technology on education from an Islamic perspective. It highlighted the importance of conscious and responsible use of modern technologies in line with Islamic values, while reinforcing ethics in a fast-evolving digital environment and presenting practical, value-based educational approaches.
In the educational psychology session, Dr Bushra Ahmed Alakashee from the University of Sharjah discussed the psychological impact of digital content consumption. She noted that rapid screen-based content can stimulate repeated pleasure responses, potentially leading to addictive behaviours that affect children’s engagement with real-life experiences.
She recommended several solutions, including strengthening self-control, regulating screen time, encouraging creative activities, and providing real-world alternatives that support social and emotional development.
Aisha Al Darmaki from the Sharjah Cyber Security Centre addressed privacy and cybersecurity in educational settings. She highlighted the effects of information overload on children and stressed the need to embed ethical values in digital interactions.
She also outlined key cyber threats such as phishing and social engineering, some targeting individuals while others target institutions. Her recommendations included verifying information sources, avoiding sharing sensitive data, securing social media accounts, and raising awareness of online fraud methods.
In the jurisprudence session, Dr Mohammed Ashour, Professor of Islamic jurisprudence at University of Al Wasl, discussed rulings on entertainment and electronic gaming. He emphasised the importance of contemporary Islamic legal reasoning in addressing digital developments, noting that entertainment is permissible in principle provided it complies with Sharia guidelines and maintains balance.
The seminar concluded with an interactive session where participants discussed key challenges and posed questions. The event highlighted the importance of continued programmes that bridge Islamic values with modern technological realities.
