Sharjah 24: To provide the best services for development and tourism projects, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) is implementing the second phase of the Al Dhaid Camel Racecourse lighting project. The project is expected to be fully completed by the end of May 2026 and includes the installation of 346 12-metre-high poles, the laying of 17 kilometres of cables, and the installation of 676 energy-efficient 208W spotlights, at a cost of approximately AED 3 million. This will bring the total number of lighting poles in the first and second phases of the project to 662, at a total cost of AED 11.5 million.

SEWA is also implementing the Al Ghawanim-Al Thaqiba lighting project, which involves installing 78 lighting poles, each 8 metres high.

Highest technical specifications

Engineer Khalifa Mohammed Al Tunaiji, Director of the Central Region Department at SEWA, explained that the lighting project for the Al Dhaid Camel Racecourse was implemented according to the highest technical specifications. He noted that the first phase of the project was completed in February 2025.

This phase included the installation of 316 light poles, each 12 meters high, four 200 KVA transformers, one 500 KVA transformer, and the laying of 23.854 km of cables. The total cost of the project exceeded AED 8.5 million. This included the installation of 8,750 metres of aluminium cables, 14,321 meters of copper cables, 718 120-watt LED lights, and six 100-A lighting distribution boxes.

Al Tunaiji added that the lighting project for the Al Ghawanim-Al Thaqiba neighbourhood included the installation of 87 energy-efficient 80-watt lights and the laying of 3,900 metres of cables.

Al Tunaiji stressed that the authority is working to provide the best services for development and tourism projects and to implement lighting projects in various areas to provide security, safety, and a civilized and aesthetic appearance.
