Sharjah24: The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) completed during the first quarter of 2026 the installation and operation of 961 street lighting poles across various areas of Sharjah city. The works also included extending the road lighting network over a total length of 51.6 kilometres.
Extensive maintenance operations
The authority carried out 32,565 maintenance operations for street lighting assets, in addition to more than 8,601 maintenance and technical support actions in low-voltage 11 kV distribution stations. It also completed 167 bases for distribution panels.
Commitment to quality and safety standards
Engineer Ahmed Salem Al Bas, Deputy Director of the Electricity Distribution Department, stated that the authority continues its efforts to design and implement road lighting networks across all areas according to high-quality and efficient standards.
He explained that lighting networks are designed to suit secondary, main and highway roads, taking into account the spacing between poles, their height, and the number of luminaires installed on each pole. He added that technical teams in the Electricity Distribution Department design, approve and implement lighting networks after studying and reviewing each project to ensure optimal distribution of poles and lights in line with road specifications.
Supporting urban development and public safety
He further noted that the authority remains committed to delivering high-quality services across all projects, stressing that lighting and low-voltage maintenance projects are essential infrastructure works. These projects enhance the appearance of streets and contribute to the safety and security of residents and road users.
