Sharjah 24: Maryam Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD), presented the winners of the Department's "Distinguished Performance Award" in its seventh edition for 2024. A ceremony held in the Sharjah Research, Technology, and Innovation Park acknowledged 46 winners in all award categories.

In her speech, Maryam Al Shamsi stated that the winners represent an elite group of employees within the Social Services Department (SSSD)—individuals who embody the values of sincere work, have elevated it with excellence and creativity, and have contributed to improving performance and the quality of services provided to the community.

A vital platform

She went on to say that the Distinguished Performance Award has become an important tool for promoting a culture of excellence, positive competition, and creativity, as well as boosting employees' talents and performance. This demonstrates the SSSD's dedication to creating a professional and dynamic work environment that fosters talent, promotes projects, and constantly improves the capabilities of its staff in service to the community.

She added that the gathering today across various work categories reaffirms that "we are one team working with a shared spirit" to fulfil the SSSD's mission of serving people in the Emirate of Sharjah, led by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Award of Excellence

The award, now in its seventh cycle, continues to serve as a long-term source of encouragement by rewarding outstanding departments, branches, centres, and personnel within the SSSD. They are the foundation of institutional development and success, ensuring that services supplied to beneficiaries—the ultimate goal and focus of all efforts—continue to improve. This edition of the award is divided into three multi-level categories: job excellence awards, administrative excellence awards, and team excellence awards. A total of 46 winners were chosen from these three categories.

Goals

Ahmed Al Ali, Director of the SSSD's Institutional Development Office, noted that the Award's primary goal is to strengthen institutional work methods and encourage healthy competition among employees and departments. It aims to promote continuous development, capability building, and the implementation of best administrative and service practices, as well as long-term reward programs that foster a culture of creativity and job innovation.

Award Category Criteria

Khalid Al Abdouli, Chair of the Evaluation Committee, explained that all 14 participating categories—including administrative, technical, specialised, and other fields—were evaluated using thorough criteria. These included achievement and impact, learning and development, creativity, constructive citizenship, and a strong leadership spirit. The evaluation procedure consisted of three stages: initial submission screening, file assessment, and individual interviews to recognise excellent performance in a transparent and professional manner.
