Sharjah 24: Sharjah Police, represented by the Directorate of Anti-Narcotics and Prevention, has foiled a major smuggling scheme led by an international network operating across four countries. The network attempted to smuggle more than 12 kilogrammes of cocaine into the country for distribution.

The Sharjah Ports, Customs, and Free Zones Authority (SPCFZA), demonstrated its efficacy by keeping a close eye out for suspicious activity, acquiring intelligence fast, and collaborating effectively with the police. These efforts demonstrate the increased level of readiness and security discipline that resulted in the successful prevention of the smuggling operation.

Brigadier General Majid Sultan Al Asm, Director of the Directorate of Anti-Narcotics and Prevention, confirmed that the operation resulted in the arrest of the main smuggler—of Asian nationality—immediately upon his arrival in the country via one of the GCC states. Two African nationals who were set to receive the shipment inside the country were also caught in the act. He explained that investigations and intelligence efforts, in cooperation with the National Advance Information Centre, enabled the specialised teams to identify the details of another traveller of the same nationality. The individual was travelling from a GCC state to another country with transit through one of the UAE airports. Within less than two hours, data on the suspect and the method of concealment were passed on to the destination country through coordination with the National Anti-Narcotics Authority, which succeeded in seizing approximately 5 kilogrammes of cocaine.

Al Asm praised the joint efforts that contributed to the dismantling of this international scheme, stressing that the professional approach and high precision in monitoring the network’s data and movements helped foil both operations within a record time. This reflects the commitment of the National Anti-Narcotics Authority and Sharjah Police to strengthening societal protection, combating drug smuggling networks, and enhancing integrated security cooperation with local, federal, and international authorities.

Sharjah Police affirmed that foiling the two operations in such a short period demonstrates the efficiency of the security ecosystem in the emirate, as well as the advanced level of coordination among the relevant authorities, and the ongoing efforts aimed at protecting the community from the scourge of drugs.
